When To Join Advanced SwingJive Courses

The Advanced SwingJive level is ideal if you have completed all THREE 10-week Inters Plus SwingJive courses, "Orange", "Purple" and "Blue" in our series of SwingJive courses.

Dancers with experience that have not been following our courses should only consider this level if they are already comfortable with basic Charleston and the 6-beat rhythm.

The new Advanced level features 3 x 10-week courses containing the most challenging content on our regular courses. Each lesson features a challenging routine containing a new move. You'll also recap moves learned earlier on the same course and from Intermediate or Inters Plus levels. The remainder of each session is dedicated to freestyle practice, with our team on hand to offer personalised guidance.

Just like at the Inters Plus level, there are three courses and each course contains different content. The three courses rotate during the year, they are colour coded as follows:

  • Violet in the Autumn term every year
  • Teal in the Spring term every year
  • Magenta in the Summer Term every year

That's right, we've had to dig deep in our pencil case to find some more colours!

As these three Advanced level courses are at the same level of difficulty, they can be taken in any order. That is, it doesn't matter which term of the year you start learning at the Advanced level.

Please book and pay before the first lesson.

What to Expect from 10-Week Advanced SwingJive Courses

Each Advanced SwingJive Course builds on what you have learned at the lower levels. In particular, the Advanced SwingJive courses use the foundations of basic Charleston and 6-beat rhythm to bring you into the world of lindy hop.

The weekly format will see a routine at the start of the session followed by freestyle practice time. Just like in other courses, we repeat the new move from the previous lesson and a move from an earlier course, alongside the new move of the week. This means you are always enjoying a fresh move while reinforcing content learned in the past.

You will learn the Tandem Charleston, triple steps and the eight-beat rhythm, learning how to apply these appropriately and integrate them with your existing dancing. You'll be learning core lindy hop moves such as the swing out. You can consider yourself a lindy hopper after having completed your Advanced level courses.

When to Join Inters Plus SwingJive Courses

The Inters Plus level is ideal if you have been dancing with us for 3 or more terms. This should mean you have completed Absolute Beginners, Yellow Intermediate and Green Intermediate Courses.

We run THREE 10 week Inters Plus SwingJive courses, "Orange", "Purple" and "Blue". These can be taken in any order and they are designed to follow on from our Intermediate SwingJive courses, where you will have learned basic Charleston and 6 beat rhythms which are essential foundation steps for the Inters Plus level.

We rotate Inters Plus SwingJive courses from one term to the next, so the Purple course starts in January, the Blue course starts after Easter and the Orange Intermediate Plus course starts in the Autumn.

What to Expect from Inters Plus Courses

Each Inters Plus SwingJive Course builds on what you have learned at the lower levels.

This level gives you new techniques. You will learn tips for responsible social dancing. We add popular strolls so you can start dancing without a partner! Variations on the basic Charleston are lots of fun and there are new moves including the occasional flashy dip or lean.

We're always referring back to moves you have already learned so you'll never forget them. Every time we show you a new move we will draw on moves that you already know to create new sequences. This course shows you how to extend those old moves. It challenges you to think about linking moves in ways you haven't done before.

We still maintain the popular format and structure of the Absolute Beginners and Intermediate SwingJive Courses so if you enjoyed those courses, the Intermediate Plus level courses will be a joy to take too.

When Can You Access Your Online Course?

The accompanying online course, which is offered free with every Beginner, Intermediate and Inters Plus level SwingJive course booked at your local venue, will be available to access before the 2nd lesson of the term at your local venue.

When to Take The Intermediate Courses

The Green and Yellow Intermediate courses can be taken in either order. They are designed to follow on from our Absolute Beginners SwingJive Course. It is best to complete both of the Intermediate courses before moving on to the Inters Plus level SwingJive courses. We alternate Intermediate Green & Yellow courses, if the current term offers one colour, expect the other colour to be available the following term.

An Intermediate course is normally the best option if you have been dancing with us for one or two terms. That is, you have just completed the Absolute Beginners Course only, or the beginner's course plus the other colour Intermediate Course.

Take a Look at the Moves on the Course...

What to Expect from Intermediate Courses

Each Intermediate Course contains a similar number of moves to the Absolute Beginners Jive Course. The format and structure continue in the same pattern too.

On the beginner's course, we keep the footwork simple. Most of the moves on the intermediate course have simple footwork too. However, we do add in new footwork rhythms. The 6-Beat rhythm is added early in each Intermediate course, as is the Basic Charleston rhythm.

These new rhythms are great because they allow you to keep on dancing without having to keep on spinning all the time! Leaders can do a simple repeated rhythm and give themselves thinking time, followers get a rest from all the spins!

So if you loved the beginner's course you are sure to love the Intermediate SwingJive courses even more!

Everybody on an Intermediate course will receive a fun weekly email! It's packed with video reminders of your moves, sneak peeks of next week's steps, and your free access to our online course. Plus, we'll share other useful info about our classes and The Swing Dance Company, helping your dance journey flow smoothly!

Class & Dance Evening

Join us for our Autumn Class & Dance evenings at Farnborough Royal British Legion. This is a lovely social venue with parking and a bar!

Each of these evenings will feature one 30-minute class at the start of the evening with participation optional, along with dancing to swinging tunes until 9.30pm.

Spaces need to be pre-booked online via this booking page.

Guests can attend on their own or with a partner. Dancers will be invited to rotate during classes, those preferring to remain with a fixed partner are welcome to do so.

This evening is the perfect opportunity to keep practicing, whether you're currently attending regular classes elsewhere or if you're on a break and want to have a catch-up.

Everyone is welcome, but the evening would suit most people who have danced before and want a good fun evening out.

WHAT HAPPENS?

At the start of the evening, there is an initial fun SwingJive class at approximately Intermediate level.
Our team will play your favourite tunes for freestyle practice after the class.
You can dance the night away until the last track finishes at 9.30pm. Our friendly team will be on hand too, in case you need help with any moves, or just fancy a dance!

WHO CAN COME?

This evening is aimed at those who have been on recent courses or who wish to resume social dancing. All are welcome, but these evenings are not suited for those who have never danced before.

WHAT TIME?
