Jive lessons in schools are a great way to explore dance and drama courses, as a way of bringing a variety of 20th-century history topics to life, and as a non-competitive PE or extra-curricular activity. The Swing Dance Company is available to support schools and colleges.
Dance, drama, living history, PE and more…
With a natural tie-in to dance and drama courses, The Swing Dance Company can be hired to provide expert tuition in lindy hop, Charleston, jive and other similar styles that are rarely found within the teaching skillset of schools and colleges. Any number of the swing dance styles add an interesting cultural diversity.
We have enhanced school drama productions from Bugsy Malone to Grease and Hairspray, as well as choreographing and teaching students and staff for school video projects.
Dance offers a perfect option as a non-competitive physical activity. Jive lessons in schools can add to students’ portfolio of social skills, especially building up to a major event such as a school prom.
Swing dance styles bring history lessons to life with dramatic effect. From the Roaring 1920s Charleston, 1930s depression era lindy hop, 1940s World War 2 jitterbugging or classic 1950s rock’n’roll, we can bring fun to history lessons or music lessons!
It’s helpful if you have an idea of the dates, approximate numbers and ages of students.
Check out some of the feedback!
“Feedback from the students is great – they are buzzing about it!” J Cotton, Bay House School, Gosport
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the rock and roll workshop Clare and you did at Harrison School last Wednesday afternoon. The children (and the teachers!!) thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and when we got back to class we had several spontaneous dance performances to the rock and roll music I was playing. Hopefully, it can become a feature of the Post 1948 history project!” K Saleh, Harrison Primary School, Fareham
