We run TWO 10 week intermediate SwingJive courses, “Green” and “Yellow”. They are the perfect follow on for anybody who has completed the Absolute Beginners SwingJive Course. They are the next level up from Beginners, and at the same level as each other. The Green and Yellow Intermediate courses are available on alternate terms.
When to Take The Intermediate Courses
The Green and Yellow Intermediate courses can be taken in either order. They are designed to follow on from our Absolute Beginners SwingJive Course. It is best to complete both of the Intermediate courses before moving on to the Inters Plus level SwingJive courses. We alternate Intermediate Green & Yellow courses, if the current term offers one colour, expect the other colour to be available the following term.
An Intermediate course is normally the best option if you have been dancing with us for one or two terms. That is you have just completed the Absolute Beginners Course only, or the beginner’s course plus the other colour Intermediate Course.
What To Expect
Each Intermediate Course contains a similar number of moves to the Absolute Beginners Jive Course. The format and structure continue in the same pattern too.
On the beginner’s course, we keep the footwork simple. Most of the moves on the intermediate course have simple footwork too. However, we do add in new footwork rhythms. The six-beat rhythm is added early in each Intermediate course, as is the basic Charleston rhythm.
These new rhythms are great because they allow you to keep on dancing without having to keep on spinning all the time! Leaders can do a simple repeated rhythm and give themselves thinking time, ladies get a rest from all the spins!

Expired Class & Dance Evenings – Fareham
Class & Dance Evenings in Fareham - Bring a Dance Partner
Join us on Tuesday evenings in Fareham for this limited run of evenings featuring fun classes and dancing from 7.30-10pm. This format has been specially adapted for social dancers to enjoy an evening in a covid-safe environment.
These sessions will feature two 30 minute classes at Beginner/Inter and Intermediate Plus levels with participation optional, along with dancing to a Swinging DJ. Spaces need to be pre-booked with a set partner and numbers will be limited to ensure there is ample space on the dance floor and in the seating areas. You'll need to remain with your partner during the lessons.
These evenings are the perfect opportunity for you to get back in the swing of things in a fun and friendly environment regardless of your previous level of experience.
WHAT HAPPENS? At the start of each evening, there is a beginner SwingJive class, which you can join whatever your level. Our DJ then plays your favourite tunes for freestyle practise, before a more challenging class begins at 9pm. After that, you can dance the night away until the last track finishes at 10pm. Our friendly coaches will be on hand too, in case you need help with any moves, or just fancy a dance!
WHO CAN COME? This evening is aimed at those who wish to resume social dancing.

On five consecutive Tuesday evenings from 18th January, we'll be running refresher workshops.
Each evening workshop will be dedicated to covering one of the five specific Intermediate and Inters Plus 10-week SwingJive Courses.
Each session can be booked as a stand-alone evening workshop. Bookings are open to anybody who has started that particular 10-week SwingJive course with us at any time in the past, no matter how long ago!
With a running time of 2 hours 15 minutes, the instructors will have time to cover the key parts of the relevant course. This workshop would suit you if:
- your attendance on a previous SwingJive course was interrupted
- you're planning on joining a continuation SwingJive course and want a quick brush-up
- you took a Course in the past and want to jog your memory without spending 10 weeks learning
The workshop would not be suitable for anyone who has not participated in the corresponding 10-week course before.

This workshop evening is a great opportunity for you to get back in the dance hall and practice your moves. We run THREE 10 week Inters Plus SwingJive courses, “Orange”, “Purple” and “Blue”. These can be taken in any order and they are designed to follow on from our Intermediate SwingJive courses, where you will have learned basic Charleston and 6 beat rhythms which are essential foundation steps for the Inters Plus level.
We rotate Inters Plus SwingJive courses from one term to the next, so the Purple course starts in January, the Blue course starts after Easter and the Orange Intermediate Plus course starts in the Autumn.
Inters Plus SwingJive Course Content
Each Inters Plus SwingJive Course builds on what you have learned at the lower levels.
This level gives you new techniques. You will learn tips for responsible social dancing. We add popular strolls so you can start dancing without a partner! Variations on the basic Charleston are lots of fun and there are new moves including the occasional flashy dip or lean.
We’re always referring back to moves you have already learned so you’ll never forget them. Every time we show you a new move we will draw on moves that you already know to create new sequences. This course shows you how to extend those old moves. It challenges you to think about linking moves in ways you haven’t done before.
We still maintain the popular format and structure of the Absolute Beginners and Intermediate SwingJive Courses so if you enjoyed those courses, the Intermediate Plus level courses will be a joy to take too.

They are the next level up from Beginners, and at the same level as each other. The Green and Yellow Intermediate courses are available on alternate terms.

Your course fee requires payment prior to attendance. Bookings will close prior to Lesson 3 so you can pay to join anytime up to then, but the standard course fee applies regardless of how many sessions you attend in total.

When to Take The Intermediate Courses
The Green and Yellow Intermediate courses can be taken in either order. They are designed to follow on from our Absolute Beginners SwingJive Course. It is best to complete both of the Intermediate courses before moving on to the Inters Plus level SwingJive courses. We alternate Intermediate Green & Yellow courses, if the current term offers one colour, expect the other colour to be available the following term.
An Intermediate course is normally the best option if you have been dancing with us for one or two terms. That is you have just completed the Absolute Beginners Course only, or the beginner’s course plus the other colour Intermediate Course.
What To Expect
Each Intermediate Course contains a similar number of moves to the Absolute Beginners Jive Course. The format and structure continue in the same pattern too.
On the beginner’s course, we keep the footwork simple. Most of the moves on the intermediate course have simple footwork too. However, we do add in new footwork rhythms. The six-beat rhythm is added early in each Intermediate course, as is the basic Charleston rhythm.
These new rhythms are great because they allow you to keep on dancing without having to keep on spinning all the time! Leaders can do a simple repeated rhythm and give themselves thinking time, ladies get a rest from all the spins!
