It’s time to learn The Shim Sham-the classic jazz era stroll that every swing dancer should know! The Shim Sham started life as a stage routine for tap dancers in the 1920s before being adopted by Lindy Hoppers in the ballrooms of Harlem. Legendary dancer Frankie Manning helped make it famous, and today it is danced at swing events all over the world. Whether you are completely new to this routine or want to refine your style, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to master the steps. Tonight’s Format: We are dedicating the evening to this iconic routine with a structured workshop format:
- Part 1 (Approx 1 hr): We’ll break down the first half of the routine, focusing on the signature steps.
- Social Break: A chance to grab a drink, practice what you’ve learned, or just freestyle to some great tunes.
- Part 2 (Approx 1 hr): We’ll complete the routine and look at styling, so you can dance it with confidence.

Tonight we are breaking the standard “one leader, one follower” rule. “Double Trouble” is a fun, quirky, and unusual style of swing where one leader dances with two followers simultaneously. It’s a fantastic coordination challenge and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. What to Expect:
- 2 x 30-Minute Lessons: We will break down the mechanics of dancing as a trio. You’ll learn how to lead two people at once (without tying yourself in knots!) and how followers can synchronize their moves.
- Social Dancing: Between the lessons and afterwards, you’ll have plenty of time for regular freestyle dancing, plus chances to practice your new “Double Trouble” moves if you’re feeling brave!
You don’t need to bring two partners with you-we will rotate and mix groups so everyone gets a go at this fun variation. Come along and try something completely different! Event Details:

Reconnect & Dance: We’d love to welcome back past and current dancers for a mini-reunion and a chance to warm up your dance feet. Come along, catch up with friends, and enjoy great music and freestyle social dancing from 7:30pm – 10:00pm.
Chat with the Team: Key Swing Dance Company team members plus the regular Fareham crew will be there. Whether you want to request a specific song, ask about the upcoming term, or just say hello, it’s the perfect informal setting.
