When To Join Inters Plus SwingJive Courses
The Inters Plus level is ideal if you have been dancing with us for 3 or more terms. This should mean you have completed Absolute Beginners, Yellow Intermediate and Green Intermediate Courses.
We run THREE 10 week Inters Plus SwingJive courses, “Orange”, “Purple” and “Blue”. These can be taken in any order and they are designed to follow on from our Intermediate SwingJive courses, where you will have learned basic Charleston and 6 beat rhythms which are essential foundation steps for the Inters Plus level.
We rotate Inters Plus SwingJive courses from one term to the next, so the Purple course starts in January, the Blue course starts after Easter and the Orange Intermediate Plus course starts in the Autumn.
£10pp Early Bird Discount
Pay for the course 3 weeks before Lesson 1 to get an extra £10 per person off the course fee, compared to the standard rate.
Extra Lessons Free!
All paying participants can benefit from free access to the full course online and free catch-up lessons at alternative venues meaning you have a massive range of opportunities to learn the content of this course.
First-Come, First Serve
Spaces are limited and available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Your course fee needs to be paid from this page at the time of booking and prior to attendance.
What To Expect From Inters Plus Courses
Each Inters Plus SwingJive Course builds on what you have learned at the lower levels.
This level gives you new techniques. You will learn tips for responsible social dancing. We add popular strolls so you can start dancing without a partner! Variations on the basic Charleston are lots of fun and there are new moves including the occasional flashy dip or lean.
We’re always referring back to moves you have already learned so you’ll never forget them. Every time we show you a new move we will draw on moves that you already know to create new sequences. This course shows you how to extend those old moves. It challenges you to think about linking moves in ways you haven’t done before.
We still maintain the popular format and structure of the Absolute Beginners and Intermediate SwingJive Courses so if you enjoyed those courses, the Intermediate Plus level courses will be a joy to take too.
When Can You Access Your Online Course?
The accompanying online course, which is offered free with every Beginner, Intermediate and Inters Plus level SwingJive course booked at your local venue, will be available to access before the 2nd Lesson of the term at your local venue.

When to Take The Intermediate Courses
The Green and Yellow Intermediate courses can be taken in either order. They are designed to follow on from our Absolute Beginners SwingJive Course. It is best to complete both of the Intermediate courses before moving on to the Inters Plus level SwingJive courses. We alternate Intermediate Green & Yellow courses, if the current term offers one colour, expect the other colour to be available the following term.
An Intermediate course is normally the best option if you have been dancing with us for one or two terms. That is you have just completed the Absolute Beginners Course only, or the beginner’s course plus the other colour Intermediate Course.
What To Expect
Each Intermediate Course contains a similar number of moves to the Absolute Beginners Jive Course. The format and structure continue in the same pattern too.
On the beginner’s course, we keep the footwork simple. Most of the moves on the intermediate course have simple footwork too. However, we do add in new footwork rhythms. The six-beat rhythm is added early in each Intermediate course, as is the basic Charleston rhythm.
These new rhythms are great because they allow you to keep on dancing without having to keep on spinning all the time! Leaders can do a simple repeated rhythm and give themselves thinking time, ladies get a rest from all the spins!
So if you loved the beginner’s course you are sure to love the Intermediate SwingJive courses even more!

- Courses that don’t achieve minimum numbers by the early booking rate deadline are at risk of being cancelled.
Take a Look at the Moves on the Course…
What to Expect from Intermediate Courses
When Can You Access Your Online Course?
The accompanying online course, which is offered free with every Beginner, Intermediate and Inters Plus level SwingJive course booked at your local venue, will be available to access before the 2nd Lesson of the term at your local venue.
Every email address provided with a registration on the course at the local venue will receive an email containing a link with a unique voucher code a few days after the first lesson of the term. The link will allow the recipient to enrol in the relevant course free of charge at our online school. The full online course is available on demand as soon as you have enrolled in it at our online school.

Shim Sham workshop in Farnham!
Join Bob and his team for an immersive two-and-a-half-hour workshop, introducing you to the infectious energy of the Shim Sham stroll. Experience the heart of classic jazz dance at All Hallows School in picturesque Farnham.
The Shim Sham stroll, a timeless emblem of the jazz era, originated as a captivating ensemble routine for tap dancers in various shows during the 1930s. Its evolution into a cherished favourite among dancers in vibrant nightclubs solidified its place in dance history. Renowned lindy hopper Frankie Manning, a luminary of the original era, ensured the Shim Sham's legacy lived on by imparting its magic to subsequent generations of dancers during the swing revival in the 1980s and 90s. Today, swing enthusiasts consider mastering the Shim Sham a rite of passage.
Furthermore, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to prepare for the upcoming Mytchett Tea Dance. Showcase your newfound skills and join the joyous celebration of swing dance with fellow enthusiasts. Don't miss your chance to be part of this exhilarating journey through jazz history. Reserve your spot today and get ready to shimmy, shuffle, and strut like never before!
The Shim Sham is most frequently danced to one of several songs. These include Jimmie Lunceford version of Tain't What You Do (It's The Way That You Do It) or the Erskine Hawkins version of Tuxedo Junction from the original Big Band era. More recently, Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra created The Shim Sham Song which is designed around the routine!
