“We have had a great time learning the moves over the past 10 weeks. Steve and Sue have made learning easy and fun.” Paul, Fareham

Join the Fareham team for a workshop to learn the Shim Sham stroll in Fareham!

The evening will be broken into tuition for approximately for 2 x 1 hour sections, with a nice break in the middle for you to refresh and enjoy a bit of social dancing!

The Shim Sham is THE classic jazz era stroll, which started life as an ensemble routine for tap dancers performing at shows and was adopted by dancers in the nightclubs of the 1930s. Legendary original-era lindy hopper Frankie Manning made sure to share this routine with a new generation of dancers when swing started to become popular again in the 1980s and 90s. It’s a must-know routine for all swing dancers.

This workshop is taking place before both the “Big Band and Rat Pack Social” in Fareham the next week and the Autumn Swinging Ball on 18th October. We’ll make sure you have chance to practice the routine at both events!

The Shim Sham is most frequently danced to the Jimmie Lunceford version of Tain’t What You Do (It’s The Way That You Do It) or the Erskine Hawkins version of Tuxedo Junction from the original Big Band era. More recently, Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra created The Shim Sham Song which is designed around the routine!
