***LATEST NEWS*** Mike Sanchez’s injuries are too serious for him to consider performing this weekend so sadly he has cancelled his performance at the Xmas Swinging Ball. The event goes ahead with substitute band lead by one of Mike Sanchez’s backing group. Mike’s double bassist Nick Whitfield has arranged for JG and The Ultimates to perform at short notice. With a sound that is very close to Mike Sanchez, guests won’t be disappointed.

The Swing Dance Company host Mike Sanchez and His Portions at their Xmas Swinging Ball. The legendary rhythm and blues singer and pianist returns to The Swing Dance Company after a 5 year break.

Music & dance lovers can’t wait to return to our huge venue in Portsmouth on Saturday 5th December, 2015. The Xmas Swinging Ball has been held at Admiral Lord Nelson School for 13 years and built a splendid reputation, attracting the UK’s finest jive and swing bands and huge attendances.

Developing his reputation with The Big Town Playboys during the 1980s, Sanchez was headline news in Time Out Magazine and he rubbed shoulders with Robert Plant, Eric Clapton and Paul Jones at venues including the Royal Albert Hall. Into the 90s and The Big Town Playboys were playing festivals across Europe, US tours (organised by Mick Fleetwood) and on TV with Jools Holland. They performed on stage alongside Jeff Beck, Robert Cray, Bo Diddley and John Lee Hooker. Mike Sanchez has been named UK Keyboard player of the year on 5 consecutive years at the turn of the century and performed in Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings.

Now based in Spain, we are delighted to have this rare opportunity to be hosting one of the greatest performers in our genre.

Mike Sanchez helped forge the reputation of our Xmas Swinging Ball in its earlier years, having performed at 2 consecutive Xmas Swinging Balls for The Swing Dance Company in 2008 and 2009. Subsequent years have seen other big name performers such as The Jive Aces, King Pleasure and The Biscuit Boys and The Regular Joes each with multiple appearances for us. We’re delighted that Mike Sanchez was keen to return this year for the biggest event of our year!

The Swinging Xmas Ball is more than just a live band event though – if you only come to one dance event this year, make sure it’s this one! Our team save their creative best for the Swinging Xmas Ball, with memorable decorations, themed treats and fun surprises. Every single Xmas Swinging Ball has sold out with over 200 guests, we’re expecting the same again for 2015!

This is a Xmas themed event so guests are invited to dress appropriately, our team will be busy dressing the venue especially for the night, so bring your mistletoe and give them them the Xmas kiss they deserve!

The venue offers a spacious dance floor, ample seating and tables plus an inexpensive fully licensed in-house bar operated by our own friendly dancers. The evening is perfect for you whether you prefer to dance non-stop or just kick back, socialise and enjoy the live music and entertainments. Being just a few minutes away from the A27/M27 near the Eastern Road in Portsmouth, the venue is easy to reach from far and wide – we always attract dancers from all over the South! The venue has a large car park.

The band will be supported by swinging DJs and a warm-up lesson. The DJ team will play a great mix of swing, rock’n’roll and rhythm and blues tracks. Refunds / Transfer of Tickets

If you cancel before 21st Nov 2015 there will be a full refund of the value of the tickets less a £5 admin fee per transaction.

If you cancel between 22nd Nov & 4th Dec 2015 there will be a 50% refund of the value of the tickets plus a £5 admin fee per transaction.

There are no refunds for cancellation after 5pm, Fri 4th Dec 2015.

Should you wish to transfer your ticket to a different named person, please make a request to us at info@theswingdancecompany.co.uk. A transfer of booking is only valid with prior agreement from The Swing Dance Company administrative office and must be completed on or before midday, Fri 4th Dec 2015.
