What to Expect From the 3 Week Lindy Hop Mini-Course
Lindy Hop is often thought of as the original swing dance. We use some parts of lindy hop for SwingJive, but this mini-course will give you a feel of a more authentic swing dance that originated in the 1920s. Lindy hop footwork is more demanding as it flows between Charleston, 6 beat rhythm and 8 beat rhythm.
This mini-course will show you how to dance a simple lindy hop routine. On the way to building your routine, you will learn:
- how to do a basic lindy Charleston
- how to do triple steps
- how to use triple steps in Charleston to create an 8 beat rhythm
- how to do a swing out, which is the core move in lindy hop
- how to integrate your swing out and Charleston with a 6 beat rhythm move
Who Can Take Part in the 3 Week Lindy Hop Mini-Course
This course is open to everybody who books with a partner and dances with them throughout the mini-course.
Although no previous experience is required, this mini-course would suit people who have some previous dance experience. Anybody who has never danced before should consider our Absolute Beginners SwingJive Course first.

Parking & Access
During the evenings, access is restricted to entrances on the Leisure Centre side of the site. Please drive to the Dorchester Leisure Centre entrance, DT1 2HR, and park in the parking areas around the leisure centre.
Finding The Studio
From the car park, walk past the entrance to the Upper Sports Hall and continue down the steps. Turn right and then enter the building on your left-hand side. Once inside, the studio is through a doorway to the left.
Finding The Upper Sports Hall
For classes in the Upper Sports Hall, it is best to park in the top car park to the left as you enter the Leisure Centre entrance from the main road. Follow the car park to the end, where you will find large main gates into the school grounds. Go through the double gates and bear right. The Upper Sports Hall is on your right-hand side (running parallel with the top car park).
Finding The Lower Sports Hall
Once parked, please walk onto the school site via the large double gates to the school slightly down the driveway and on the opposite side to the Leisure Centre. From the entrance gates, follow a U-shaped walk along the main driveway into the school to a central pedestrian square. After reaching the square turn right, go to the end of the square and then turn right again. From the square, you can then follow a pathway straight ahead to the Lower Sports Hall building. Enter the building and the Sports Hall is on the right-hand side.
