The Absolute Beginners Jive Course is designed for you if you have never done any jive or swing dance before. In fact most new starters have never done any kind of dance class at all. These courses are a perfect starting point for a weekly adult, evening partner dance class and they lead into an exciting, fun and sociable new world. Now look at the moves you can learn on our Absolute Beginners Jive Course!
“Best thing i ever did was to learn to swing jive, i just love it. Thank you for all the great courses, keep up the good work.” Denise MacDonald, Fareham classes
The Absolute Beginners Jive Course continues on the same day, time and place for 9 further sessions after the free trial week. There is an opportunity to pay for the remainder of the course at the end of the free trial.
Full price for the course is £82 per person, but we offer a discount to everybody who pays on (or before) their free trial – it’s an incentive so that we can get all of the admin done and dusted straight away. You can pay by cash, cheque, Paypal or card at the venue at £72 before we revert to the full price.
To ensure the best possible quality of tuition for the whole group we look for attendees who can commit to regular attendance, so we do not accept pay weekly in this format.
Open To All Ages and Levels of Fitness
As long as you can walk you should be able to take part. The beauty of this style of dancing is that you can push yourself to whatever energy level you are comfortable with. Dancing is a great form of exercise, you’ll be having so much fun that you won’t notice all those calories you are burning!
Who Typically Comes to Classes?
Age ranges vary wildly, from our minimum of 14*-80. Our classes are particularly popular with couples keen to share a hobby and spend quality time together. This covers both young professionals as well as couples rebuilding a fun social life, perhaps after years of child rearing. We also see lots of mother/daughter, sister/sister, girl/girl & girl/boy friend pairings.
Often reluctant husbands are dragged along by enthusiastic wives, yet by the end of the free trial it is the gents who can’t wait to sign up for the course.
Bring a Partner to the Absolute Beginners Jive Course!
Please ensure you are attending with a dance partner, we can’t guarantee you a partner and we’re not a dating agency. We set a 2 person minimum booking for our courses so please book both places at the same time using our online booking system here. We urge those without a partner or who cannot commit to a course to consider attending Swingeasy.**
Book Your Space in Advance
Simply book your space on our free trial class at the class the suits you best. Our website booking system will send a registration email to confirm venue, date and time details. Groups are typically between 20 and 30 people, everybody is an absolute beginner so no need to feel anxious. Some people do like to sneak a private lesson first, details for private lessons are on this link.
Arrive just before the advertised start time for your lesson so the teachers can greet you. Once it’s time to start we do a gentle warm-up and teach a couple of simple moves which you can dance on a loop. Before the end of the session the teachers will demonstrate all the moves coming up on the course. You can see all the beginners moves danced on the clip above.
You’ll Love The Music
You’ll recognise most of the music we play. At the beginner level we use big songs from big artists of the swing and rock’n’roll eras of the 1940s, 50s and 60s such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Little Richard. We’ll also pick out slightly more recent tunes with a swingy sound – Van Morrison and The Stray Cats are both on our beginners CD too!
At the end of the first session there is an opportunity to sign up for the course. To make our admin easier we always offer a discounted price if you pay on the night. If you wait until the following day or week the full price is charged.
Build up Week-By-Week
The course builds week by week so we only accept payment for the full course. This ensures a higher quality learning experience for the group, most customers understand the benefit of attending every week and pre-payment is a great incentive. Customers looking to attend lessons on a pay-as-you-go basis should consider going to Swingeasy.
Each session lasts for approximately one hour and there is normally a 15 minute handover to the next class. During this interval you can have a little more practice time or chat with the teachers. Each course lasts for 10 weeks including the free trial week. At the end of the Absolute Beginner Jive Course teachers will demonstrate moves on the following course. After the Absolute Beginner Jive Course, you’ll be able to follow-on to either Intermediate Yellow or Intermediate Green course, which can be taken in either order.
*we accept private bookings to teach younger children.
**As a pay-as-you-go option, Swingeasy is a perfect alternative for dancers without a regular partner. The social format includes free time for dancing and partner rotation during the classes, unlike our 10 week courses when you stay with your partner. Swingeasy offers the same style of dancing and covers the same moves but the format of the evening is different.
