As a result of our fun and friendly style, lots of dancers have started dancing. Our beginner-level classes lead onto a fantastic series of courses and introduce people to a wonderful swing dance community.
We are looking for potential team members who, due to their passion, are keen to train to become Swing Dance Company dance teachers on a part-time basis. Once trained, our dance teachers deliver our adult evening SwingJive courses in our fun and friendly style.
Ideally, you should have experience providing instruction in any field, be a good dancer or have taken at least some of our courses.
Our established training schedule develops trainees in one-to-one and small group sessions. You will spend time practising your skills in class as a teaching assistant.
It takes a very special person to become a Swing Dance Company Teacher:
- Your personality should match our fun, friendly and welcoming ethos
- You should share our interest in dancing, retro music and helping people become happier and healthier
- Your attitude should be positive, encouraging and full of enthusiasm
- You should have a good presence, communicate well, and be sociable and personable
- You need to be available on at least 2 weekday evenings per week during term time
- You'll need your own transport
Instructors are paid for their time in class, including through the training stage. The hourly pay rates are complimented with holiday pay, branded t-shirts and dance shoes for class wear. Sound equipment, music and lesson plans are provided by us. We also arrange venues, marketing and administration.
Instructors can work any number of evenings per week, but alongside a standard-hours day job, 2 evenings per week is optimal.

By following our training plan you will improve your dancing, teaching and class management skills.
Most new team members spend approximately 2 terms developing alongside an experienced teacher before taking full responsibility for teaching lessons. However, every member of our team is unique so we will assess your skills and experience before creating a training plan.
While 10-week SwingJive courses are central to our company and are the main format that our teachers deliver, other opportunities may arise. These include private bookings at parties, festivals, schools and colleges, individual tuition and helping with our special events.
